Overview

This document specifies the format and layout of the F750 bytecode representation.

File Format

The smallest unit of compilation in F750 is a F750 Source File (.f750). F750 source files are text files containing source code, editable with a text and/or code editor.

The smallest unit of compilation result in F750 is a F750 Bytecode File (.f750b). F750 Bytecode files are binary files containing sequences of bytes that represent instruction and data. Manual editing of bytecode files is generally advised against.

Each source file compiles to one and exactly one bytecode file.

Bytecode Layout

Preamble

The Bytecode Layout documents the format for content in a bytecode file. Unless otherwise stated, the order of the sections below corresponds to their position in bytecode files; sections closer to the top are present close to the start of the bytecode file, and sections further from the top are present close to the bottom.

Unless otherwise stated, there are no padding or separators between sections.

Binary Layout Diagrams

In the sections below, you will see Mermaid diagrams accompanied by byte order tables like this:

packet-beta
+4: "Field 1"
+2: "Field 2"
+4: "Field 3"
Field Width / Type Description
Field 1 4 A four-byte field.
Field 2 2 A two-byte field.
Field 3 4 A four-byte field.

Endianness

All multi-byte values, unless otherwise specified, are encoded in big-endian.

Unless otherwise specified, in all bitfield tables, bit 0 represents the least significant bit.
